Medicines.
-
Homeopathic medicines are highly diluted preparations typically made from natural sources, that have gone through a specific process called potentisation. These remedies are designed to gently support the body’s natural capacity to restore balance.
At the heart of homeopathy is the principle of “like cures like”: a substance that could cause certain symptoms in a healthy person may help relieve similar symptoms when prepared homeopathically.
Remedies are selected based on the person’s unique combination of physical, emotional, mental, and energetic patterns - aiming to support healing in a holistic, individualised way.
-
Homeopathic remedies are made from a wide variety of substances.
- Plants and flowers (like Chamomilla or Belladonna)
- Minerals and metals (like Sulphur, or Aurum Metallicum from gold)
- Animal-derived materials (like Apis from the honeybee, or Lac Maternum from mother’s milk)
- Prepared chemical compounds, disease states or imponderables (like Arsenicum, Streptococcinum or Radiation)No matter how intense or unusual the source may seem, once a substance is homeopathically prepared, it’s no longer acting chemically - it acts energetically, which is the foundation of homeopathy.
-
The direction of cure is a principle in homeopathy that describes the way in which healing typically occurs in a specific order: from the inside out, from the top down, and in reverse order of symptom appearance.
As a person heals, symptoms may first appear to worsen or return before gradually improving. This is often a sign that the body is moving through the healing process, a healing response, resolving the deeper imbalance without suppression.
Sometimes, a temporary intensification of symptoms after taking a remedy may be referred to as an aggravation. This can be physical, emotional, or both. While it can feel unsettling, it’s often a positive sign that the body has recognised the remedy and is beginning to respond.
Not everyone experiences aggravations, and not all intensifications are true aggravations. Sometimes symptoms worsen due to other factors like illness, stress or environmental triggers.
Aggravations are usually short lived - ranging from a few hours to a few days - and followed by improvement. If they’re intense or prolonged, there are ways we can support the process.
-
Despite being safe for everyone in their recommended dosage, as remedies are contained in glass bottles, liquids are made with an alcohol base and sweet sucrose based pillules can be tempting to eat a whole bottle - please keep all homeopathic medicines stored out of children’s reach.
Bottles should be stored in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, strong odors (like essential oils or cleaning chemicals) and strong electromagnetic fields (electronics such as televisions, computers, microwaves and WiFi routers).
-
Sometimes a remedy starts out giving incredible improvements, then it stalls.
There are a few reasons healing slows up or can halt and it doesn’t mean that the remedy wasn’t the right fit - it's either that the condition entered a new phase and may require a different remedy, a new potency may be needed or there is an obstacle to healing.
Some ailments that progress through different phases are colds, coughs, fever, flu, teething or gastro - each new stage needing its own specific remedy.
While it can be difficult to keep up with changing symptoms, just continue to choose remedies based on the current symptoms as they appear.
In some situations a remedy may still be the best suited but it is needed in another potency.
Booking in for an acute consultation will allow you to shift your focus onto yourself and allow me to take over remedy selection.
Consultations.
-
We use online video calls with Google Meet to conduct the consultation.
You may use a desktop or laptop with a webcam, or your mobile phone camera. You don’t need to download anything. Just ensure you have a quiet, comfortable space to talk, a stable internet connection and device charged or plugged in. A cuppa, water and a moment to settle in before we begin is always a good idea, too.
-
At the beginning of your consultation, we’ll explore what you’re seeking support for - the main reason you’ve sought homeopathic care. From there, we’ll take time to go through your personal and health history in depth.
This process is unhurried and unprejudiced, allowing space for your story to unfold.
Full consultations can take up to 90 minutes.
Acute consultations typically last around 20 minutes and focus on short term symptom pictures.
-
Prior to the consultation you may receive a questionnaire to complete and return - this is to give you the space to find some answers you may not have on hand once we are together and helps me begin to piece together your case. There’s no pressure to word it perfectly.
In all instances, have a think about the timeline of your life and chronic ailments, significant times of stress or emotional experiences, illnesses and events, medication and vaccination history, medical treatments or surgeries - noting when each took place or began.
If you have any recent test results, diagnoses, or other medical documentation that you’d like to include, feel free to send those through as well. They’re not essential and it is completely up to your discretion to share but can sometimes offer helpful context. They will always be kept confidential.
Knowing your family health history and significant traits can assist with understanding which direction we need to take for remedy selection. We are deeply impacted by our ancestral energetics. If you aren’t aware of your family health and history, if you can, try to find out the significant parts of their stories, too. -
Preparing for a homeopathic consultation can be incredibly helpful in understand your needs and finding the right remedy.

Dosing.
-
Doses are best taken under the tongue whether it is liquid or pillules (though just into the mouth is fine for children) - and held for 20 seconds before swallowing, pillules may remain and dissolve in the mouth.
Homeopathic medicines should be taken at least 5-10 minutes away from food or drink (other than water) and cleaning teeth. At least one hour from other remedies and conventional medications. This is to ensure the remedy is not antidoted, as it has the potential to be.
Succuss liquid remedy bottles on the palm of your hand prior to administering. Droppers must not come into contact with the mouth or touched into anything as this can compromise the quality of the liquid by introducing germs. Remedies should be inspected for cloudiness or particle growth routinely and discarded if found.
Pillules are to be dispensed into the cap and tipped directly into the mouth (avoid contact with the inner side of the cap) - touching remedies with fingers may affect the energy of the remedy. On occasion, pillules may be found to be stuck together inside the bottle, just give it a good tap or shake to separate them.
-
An acute or rapid dose is four to six doses of the remedy given approximately 10-15 mins apart for at least one hour. An acute dose is needed to get on top of quickly moving or intense symptoms. It is best to use an acute dose as early as possible when symptoms are coming in. An example is arnica for a sprain, bump or fall.
This is best done by “water dosing” to make it easier for regular dosing and also make your remedy stock last longer. Water dosing involves dispensing a couple of drops of the liquid remedy or two pillules into a clean jar of water, closing and succussing, or otherwise using a cup half filled water and stirring quickly with a spoon.
If you are on constitutional treatment and become unwell with an acute ailment for which you intend to treat with acute remedies, you may pause the constitutional until it has passed.
-
Homeopathic medicines are safe for children and babies from birth. They can be dispensed direct from the bottle to mouth. Though, I do recommend “water dosing” for babies to remove the taste of the alcohol in liquid remedies as this is quite potent for them and will make the amount of alcohol consumed negligible if that is a concern.
Water dosing involves dispensing a couple of drops of the liquid remedy (you can also water dose two pillules) into a clean jar of water, closing and succussing, or otherwise using a cup half filled water and stirring quickly with a spoon.
To dose from here, you can syringe or spoon in a tiny amount of the medicated water into the mouth - just enough to wet the mouth is needed, it does not have to be enough to swallow though for a baby who can take sips from a cup this is completely fine.
-
Succussion means to shake vigorously. This activates the remedy enhancing its energy and effect.
For liquid homeopathic remedies, a succussion is made by firmly tapping the bottle against the palm of your hand. This is done before each dose is taken.
The amount of succussions can vary but otherwise I like to use 10 as a basis.
-
This is very dependant upon the case and where a consultation is involved, individualised instructions will be given.
It could be anywhere from one single dose, every 10 minutes for an hour, once a day or multiple times, it may be twice weekly, weekly or even less often - and it is changeable.
Acute consultations are encouraged to be booked where extra guidance is needed.
As a brief gauge, the more intense and quick the symptom the more frequent the dose.
